My exact thoughts on Russell Simmons... (as voiced by Jay Smooth of Illdoctrine.com)

To reitorate a point, what Russell Simmons is doing is taking a stance that rappers don't choose the way they are, essentially that they are completely void of free will and are shaped like a piece of clay. That's just not true... Three examples: Talib Kweli, Saigon and Pharoahe Monch. These three individuals all grew up in the 'hood... But do they thrive on that "I'm street" point until it just becomes white noise like some artists? No, of course not... Now I know what you're thinking, Russell Simmons is an important figure in Hip-Hop, and yes, he is, you're right... But he's regurgitating the same crap every interview without changing his vantage point... If people like Oprah and Bill O'Reilly are one extreme, then Russell Simmons is the other, he's refusing to accept the faults that have occured within the music and the culture, and that's wrong too....
